I chose this painting because in this image you can see how Princip was in the corner of the street that the first three cars turned into and he made his move.
Archduke Franz Ferdinand last words were, "Sophie, Sophie, don’t die—stay alive for our children” Princip was three weeks too young to get death penalty, so he got a 20 year penalty, but died three years later in 1918, but dies 3 years later. |
This is a small box respirator it was used by the British and Canadian army. The Small Box Respirator was introduced into service with British and Imperial forces on the Western Front in 1916. The small box respirators was developed to protect against the more toxic mixture of gas, phosgene and chlorine gas.
"In December 19th 1915 German scientists at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute developed the weaponized chlorine gas. "(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_box_respirator#Chemical_Gas_Attacks). |
I chose this picture because it was the most used weapon during WWI almost every soldier had one.
“Military science develops so rapidly in times of actual war that the weapons of today soon is (sic) discarded and something better taken up.”—Attributed to a German agent in Rotterdam in 1915 news stories.(https://www.historynet.com/weapons-of-world-war-i.htm) |
"Infantry warfare had depended upon hand-to-hand combat. World War I popularized the use of the machine gun"(https://www.loc.gov/collections/world-war-i-rotogravures/articles-and-essays/military-technology-in-world-war-i/).
the machine gun was actually invented in 1884, but redesigned to be able to be carried faster from battle front to battle front it was resigned in 1912. |
The Treaty of Versailles is very important because is how the war ended the 11th of November in 1918 which was the day that the fighting stopped. I think this artifact if the most important because is how the war ended an the word was at peace.
the treaty was signed the 28th of June, 1919. "At the end of World War I, during a peace conference held in Paris, France, the victorious Allies concluded a series of peace treaties that would be imposed on the defeated Central Powers. The most important of these was the Treaty of Versailles, signed in June 1919 at the Palace of Versailles in Paris." (https://www.history.com/topics/world-war-i/treaty-of-versailles-1) |
