The Red Scare is just periods in time where in the U.S there was extreme forms of anti-communism; the first happened after WW1 and the next happened after WW2 in the Cold War. |
Chinese Civil War-1927-1936, 1945 - 1950
The civil war was interrupted when Japan invaded China and at the end of WWII the war continued. The communists side won. |
Berlin Airlift- June 24, 1948 - May 12, 1949
The US delivered supplies to eastern Germany that was controlled by Soviet Russia at the time. |
Korean War-June 25, 1950 – July 27, 1953
This war involved North Korea, South Korea, U.S, and Soviet Union. This war was fought between North and South Korea.The Soviet Union supported the north and the U.S supported the South. The plan was to liberate the communist in the North.A treaty was signed that ended the war. Both countries remained independent. Although, between the two countries a 2 mile demilitarized zone was placed to prevent future wars. |
Suez Crisis- 1954-1956
The US and British loaned Egypt some money for a dam and Egypt decided to take control of the Suez Canal and try and charge people for passage but the French, Israelis, and British all decided to take back the canal but the french and british just let the Israelis take the dam and have them be the peacekeepers but the Soviet Union was taking over hungary at the time and threatened to get involved at this point taking Egypts side and that’s when the U.S heard about it and got involved telling the Israelis, the British, and the French to stand down and it basically showed the world that the superpowers of the world are the Soviet Union and the U.S. |
Vietnam War- November 1, 1955 - April 30, 1975
The Vietnam War was fought between communist North Vietnam and the government of Southern Vietnam. It lasted 20 years and the South lost. |
Bay of Pigs- April 17, 1961 – April 19, 1961
The Bay of Pigs involves Cuba and the U.S. This is when the U.S tried to overthrow Fidel Castro's government. Although, the U.S failed because Cuba surrounded the U.S troops and forced them to retreat. |
Berlin Wall: August 13, 1961- November 1991
The wall was constructed to keep people from leaving the Soviet control eastern Germany to the U.S, British, and France western Germany. |
Cuban Missile Crisis- October 16, 1962 – October 28, 1962
This missile crisis involved Cuba, the U.S, and the Soviet Union. The crisis began when the Soviet Union installed nuclear missiles in Cuba after the U.S tried to overthrow Cuba. This is because Cuba wanted protection from the U.S. |
Yom Kippur War- October 6th and October 25th in 1973
The Yom Kippur War was fought between Israel and the Arab states of Egypt and Syria. |
Soviet Afghanistan War-December 24, 1979 - February 15, 1989
The Soviet Afghanistan War was fought between Afghanistan rebels called the Mujahideen and the Soviet supported Afghanistan government. |
Collapse of the Soviet Union- December 26, 1991
This event involved the Soviet Union and the U.S. The collapse of the Soviet Union started in the late 1980s and was complete when the country broke up into 15 independent states on December 25, 1991. This signaled the end of the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States. |
